Happy Margarita Day!!!

Monday, February 22, 2021

According to that fun book, Foodimentary, today is Margarita Day!!!  Is there anybody who doesn’t love that tequila and lime concoction?!?

Foodimentary is a fact-filled compilation of food holidays. It was created by John-Bryan Hopkins.
And, according to Foodimentary, there are hundreds of different Margarita recipes!!! But the basics remain the same: tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Usually Key Limes are used because they are smaller, thinner-skinned, and more tart.

There are many stories about the origins of this drink.  Some say it was “found” in Mexico in the 1930s because an Iowa newspaper editor wrote about sampling a Margarita in Tijuana in 1936.  Wikipedia reports cocktail historian David Wondrich believes the Margarita is a variation of the Mexican drink, the Daisy (margarita is the Spanish word for “daisy,”) which was made with brandy instead of tequila.  Tequila maker, Jose Cuervo, claims the Margarita was created in 1938 for the beautiful Mexican showgirl, Rita de la Rosa.  There are many, many stories; but no matter which story you favor, this is a perfect day to visit your favorite Mexican Restaurant for a tasty meal…..

Your RovingRaconteurs visited the el Leoncito chain for a Margarita indulgence!!!
Tortilla chips and salsa are a “must”!!!

Sandy got the Enchilada combo.

…..and the requisite libation!!!

There are a gazillion Margarita concoctions these days, but Roger chose to sample the Inferno Margarita with jalapenos!!! Sandy went with the elegant Cadillac Margarita made with the Italian orange cognac ligueur, Gran Gala.

If you can visit a Margaritaville Restaurant and listen to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville on a sound system, all the better!!!

Jimmy Buffett has built an empire around his fabulous song, “Margaritaville”.
We have had the pleasure of visiting Margaritaville in Key West, Florida.
The food, drink and music are top-notch!!!

Of course, you can always whip up a Margarita at home.  All you need is tequila, triple sec and limes.  And maybe a little salt around the lip of your glass.

All that’s required for a homemade Margarita is teguila, triple sec and limes. A little salt along the glass rim is a taste-booster.
Or…..just use a premade mix for ease and convenience!!!
And it’s tasty, too!!!

But the point is:

Enjoy a Fun-Filled Day!!!

Has anyone seen my lost shaker of salt???
