2018 HAL World Cruise
In 1503, Christopher Columbus discovered the 3 islands that comprise the Cayman Islands. Today, the islands are a British Crown Colony. George Town is the capital and is located on Grand Cayman, the largest of the 3 islands. George Town was our first port-of-call.
Ms Amsterdam anchored in Goerge Town.
This is a tender port, so the MS Amsterdam remained anchored in the Caribbean. The tender dock is situated right in the middle of town making it very easy to get around or arrange a tour. Major tourist activities include all water sports, stingray sightings, the turtle farm, day-tripping along Seven Mile Beach and, most amusingly, going to Hell and back! Hell is a tiny area of bleak, black, limestone formations. Named for its look of desolation, Hell has its own Post Office and gift shop!
The Bayshore Mall is directly across the street from the tender dock.

The Elmslie Memorial United Church.
The Atlantis submarine. It actually submerges! The point is to view and enjoy underwater creatures but, most especially, stingrays!
Just slightly north of the dock are the remains of old Ft. George. The fort was built around 1790 to protect the harbor. In 1799 it was destroyed by a Spanish naval attack. But the ruins endure and the Fort remains an interesting stop.
