We were last in the Philippines about 20 years ago. And we were only in Manila. This cruise provided us the opportunity to visit the Island of Palawan, the city of Puerto Princesa, and the Subterranean River National Park. We had a marvelous time and hope to return someday to spend more time seeing Puerto Princesa itself. I believe the following photos will tell the story of our day at the Underground River.

The buses and vans were all lined up; the singers and dancers were performing as the 1st passengers decended the gangway.These singers and dancers were from the local schools….….but more professional entertainment was provided by the local adult dancers and musicians.9 Passenger Vans to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. Each one of these vans carried 6 passengers plus guide and driver. As you can tell, this tour to one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World is very popular!The local Palawan form of transportation. This is a taxi somewhat akin to a tuk tuk. The driver sits on the motorcycle on the left, passengers (or cargo) sit on the right. Up to 5 people have been seen in one of these!The Philippine national form of transportation–a Jeepney! I counted 15 passengers in the back. We are near the “waist” of the island–that narrow part where both sides of water may be seen.On our way to the Subterranean River, we passed what appeared to be a cabin in the Jungle. Very picturesque. Quite charming and slightly romantic if you ignore the possibility of snakes and monkeys!Limestone columns–kind of a unique formation here in the Philippines.
